Dear residents and friends,

As one of Canada's most culturally diverse and fast-growing municipalities, Markham is the best community in Canada with a rich history and a promising future. Over the years, Markham has been recognized as an affluent, diverse and growing community firmly rooted in a proud heritage. We have all witnessed both the economic prosperity and the cultural enrichment that diversity has brought to Markham.

Because of my diverse background as an Indian by birth, a Chinese by descent, a Swedish-turned-Canadian by choice, I very much value the diversity we have in Markham as it provides extensive opportunities for economic growth and prosperity.

As your Regional Councillor, an enormous responsibility lies ahead of me in planning the future of Markham and I take great pride to have this role in helping Markham continue to thrive and grow.

In the face of significant amount of growth, there is a greater emphasis on sustainability coupled with ongoing and increasing concerns over traffic gridlocks, “overdevelopment” as well as pressure on the environment, waste management, transportation and social infrastructure.

As wonderful as Markham is, these are some of the greatest challenges ahead of us. I am committed to preserving the best of our past as we build to meet the needs of this and future generations.

I will continue to contribute the utmost of my capability to make Markham a better place to live, work, play and learn, moving Markham forward as the most desirable community in the GTA for families and businesses.
